Overview
In the shadow of the Monument to the Battle of the Nations lies one of the most impressive monuments in Germany: the Leipzig South Cemetery. A park-like cemetery was built here at the end of the 19th century, with paths shaped like a linden leaf. Leipzig was once known as a "place near the linden trees". Between the old trees and lush rhododendrons, there are not only simple row graves, but also imposing buildings, mausoleums, gravestones and sculptures. Many of the tombstones reflect Leipzig's impressive Wilhelminian past, but also the wealthy citizens of Leipzig's need for representation - even post mortem, beyond death. Follow me on a foray through a magnificent cultural-historical open-air museum. Discover fauna and flora in the middle of an idyllic park landscape. Experience a unique work of art made up of architecture, sculpture and garden art.
